Are you affected by the
"(407) Proxy Authentication Required" error?

If you are affected by this error, it occurs when you try to install one of the applications from the Coded Silicon web site.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a ClickOnce bug and they have provided a hotfix
in Knowledge Base Article 917952.

However, please note that the above article does not clearly state where to deploy the hotfix. Our original assumption was that we needed to deploy this hotfix to our build machine, but this was not correct. After some testing, we were able to confirm that this hotfix needs to be deployed to each client workstation where the ClickOnce application will be used. There is no way to do this via ClickOnce from the Coded Silicon web site so if you are affected by the error, you need to deploy this hotfix yourself.

To proceed:

  • Click on the link above and read about the reported Microsoft bug
  • Sign into Microsoft's support site by clicking the "Sign In" button on that article
  • Download the hotfix
  • Install the hotfix to all workstations that are affected
  • Allow enough time for the Dfsvc.exe process to shut down on each workstation (or restart if you are in a hurry)
  • Install the application from Coded Silicon again

To diagnose the patch state on your workstation:
The file C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\System.DirectoryServices.dll
needs to be version 2.0.50727.103 or later.
