Coded Silicon Product Proposal
Privacy shield / Impromptu onscreen annotation
Privacy shield that allows you to block out certain areas of the screen so people
behind you can't see your confidential information.
Typical open-plan office environments do not provide much privacy for white collar
workers. Staff who are fortunate enough to have their own office can view
confidential salaries, finances, bank statements and company secrets without fear of someone taking
a peek over their shoulder. The majority of staff however, do not have that priviledge.
One day we will see sofisticated solutions like polarised lenses that only allow the
wearer to see the image from their computer screen. Display devices built into
headsets are viable today, but companies can't justify the extra cost. All we really
want to do is block certain information on our screens or make our screens difficult
to read from a distance.
Research and development at Coded Silicon have produced a pilot solution rendering
on-screen effects to provide such privacy. This is how it started out anyway.
Appart from assisting privacy for exposed office layouts, the proposed product
has benefits in the line of an on-screen annotation tool. The annotation features
in this new product provide a useful tool for computer assisted discussions.
Having an impromptu meeting at your keyboard? No time to prepare annotated screen dumps
in a word processor or presentation tool? Have a need to annotate as the discussion
proceeds? Want to draw peoples' attention to a particular part of the screen? These are
requirements that will be met with this new product, albeit accidentally.
